HOW DO MEDICARE AND MEDICAID IMPACT MY PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM?

Medicare is a federal government health insurance program that primarily provides health insurance for Americans aged 65 and older. With personal injury cases, Medicare liens require anyone involved in the transfer of money to settle or resolve a personal injury claim to reimburse the Federal Medicare program for benefits it has paid or will pay in the future for benefits paid for medical care to a Medicare beneficiary that a negligent third party injured.

NEVADA WRONGFUL DEATH STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS

Little in life is more tragic or tougher to face than the unexpected loss of a loved one. The sudden death of your spouse, parent, or child can often feel unbearable. The devastation can be compounded when caused by someone else’s negligence that could have been prevented.

As you begin the grieving process and find the strength to make plans to lay your loved one to rest, you may also be forced to consider whether you want to pursue a wrongful death claim. Moving forward with a wrongful death claim in Nevada will never bring your family member back. Still, it can help you stabilize your family’s finances so you can focus on what is most important, grieving the loss of your loved one and healing your family. In your family’s time of need, you should not be forced to pay medical bills and funeral expenses on top of losing your loved one’s income and other contributions.

RADICULOPATHY VS. NEUROPATHY

The symptoms of radiculopathy and neuropathy often overlap. So, this makes diagnoses and treatment challenging, even for specialists. While both conditions involve nerve damage, the main difference is location. In the case of radiculopathy, the problem occurs at or near the root of the nerve, shortly after its exit from the spinal cord. However, the pain or other symptoms often radiate to the part of the body served by that nerve. Peripheral neuropathy, often shortened to neuropathy, is a general term describing a disease affecting the peripheral nerves, meaning nerves beyond the brain and spinal cord. Damage to peripheral nerves may impair sensation, movement, gland, or organ function depending on which nerves are affected; in other words, neuropathy affecting motor, sensory, or autonomic nerves results in different symptoms. We review each so you can better understand the differences.

DOES HEALTH INSURANCE COVER CAR ACCIDENT INJURIES?

No one wants to be in a car accident. The physical pain and property damage caused by an accident means you’ll be forced to deal with insurance companies. In Nevada, all drivers must carry liability insurance to pay for car repairs and medical expenses when found at fault. However, there are limits. Often, we are asked, does health insurance cover car accident injuries?

If you’re in a serious car accident, it is unlikely auto liability insurance will cover all your medical bills. To pay for your medical expenses, you have options: (1) if the other party is at fault, their liability insurance should cover your expenses; or (2) you may be able to use your health insurance to cover the medical bills.

WHAT ARE THE ODDS OF DYING IN A CAR CRASH?

Annually, more than 2.5 million Americans go to the emergency room, and nearly 200,000 are hospitalized in motor vehicle accidents. Based on these numbers, it seems obvious car crashes can cause significant injuries to those involved. Unfortunately, the sad reality is that many car accidents even result in death. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 36,560 people were killed in car accidents in the United States in 2018. That is approximately 100 people per day that die in car crashes.

Based on these facts, the odds of dying in a car crash are approximately 1 in 107. To put these odds in perspective with the risks you face in this world, they are slightly lower than the odds of dying from a fall (1 in 106) or an opioid overdose (1 in 92).

DEFERRED SALES TRUSTS – HOW DO THEY WORK?
